Day 4 (11 June 2018) Sonamarg(Kashmir) to Kargil(Ladakh ) Distance (124KM)

Sonamarg to Kargil is 124.7 km of exciting ride along beautiful and exotic landscapes. It is equally good as the destination itself. The famed Zojila Pass taunts you at the beginning of the journey. From there onwards, the road is much better and so is the journey. We drove for miles through barren rocky mountain, sparsely inhabited at places where water could be found. The Zojila pass rise to a height of around 4,000 meters above the sea level. The rugged road is chiseled out on a steep rocky mountain and is one of the most narrow and difficult passes in India. The pass is integral to the success of Kargil war and the control of Kashmir. The pass also connects the rest of India to the rather isolated valley of Ladakh. The road is so narrow and repeatedly stalled by landslide and glaciers. It has played an important role in the power shift and power control.

Our car was stopped by minor landslide, so we got off from the car to watch the valley spreading below.

My Friend's bike rear wheel got damaged, Loaded the bike in pickup truck. Kargil town is 30-40 Km from here. No need to worries White Range is here to rescue the crew :-)

View From our hotel room. Kargil is big town. You will find everything here. Car, Bike repair shoes, restaurants, Dabhas, Fruit shops etc. My friends get the bike repaired from here, it was very costly but you have no other options.

As I told Kargil is big town no worries about the hotel too. You will find many hotels here but rates will be high as compare to Sonamarg but not too much. If you reach Kargil early or in afternoon you can go to visit "Dha Hanu" village that will take time. We are not able to visit because we got the bike repaired next day at 11.30 :-(
